Frequently Asked Questions

What are the types of memberships offered by Exchange Alert?

There are two distinct membership offerings — Daily Stock Update & Hot Pick Alert.

What's next after I have signed up for the investment advice newsletters?

Once you are signed up, you can login with your e-mail address and password to view the current portfolio recommendations. Remember, if you have signed up for the Daily Stock Update only, you will be able to view that portion. If you have signed up for the Hot Pick Alert, you will be able to view the Daily Stock Update as well. We highly recommend you do additional research prior to following any of our recommendations. We discourage you from buying any stocks based only on our recommendations. Do additional research. Remember, we are not licensed investment advisors and our portfolio is hypothetical.

I have signed up but have not received anything from Exchange Alert.

Check to make sure you have entered the correct email address. Also, it is possible your ISP (Internet Service Provider) is blocking our emails. If you are having trouble with a particular email address contact us with an alternative email address through our contact page so we can be made aware of the problem as quickly as possible. We cannot contact you without an email address that receives our emails.

Why am I suddenly not receiving the Daily Stock Update or Hot Pick Alert?

We send out both versions at different times but always before the opening of the market. The most common problem with non receipt of emails from us is related to ISP filters, SPAM reduction settings and e-mail settings. Check with your ISP (Internet Service Provider) for help. In the meantime, the Daily Stock Update & Hot Pick Alert are available on the website.

How do I Renew my Membership?

Your membership is renewed on the basis that you originally signed up for. As an example, if you have signed up for a Bi-Annual membership, your membership will renewed in that same manner.

Can I get a Refund after I have signed up?

ALL SALES ARE FINAL.
NO REFUNDS.
Once you are signed up, you are obligated for the term you initially chose. We are not able to offer refunds. Sorry. A copy of the policy and member agreement is on file with our credit card entities.

What is the Key Difference between the Daily Stock Update & Hot Pick Alert?

The Daily Stock Update caters to average investors looking for ways to educate themselves about portfolio management and individual stocks. It is sent prior to the opening of the market. The Hot Pick Alert caters to more advanced investors and those who have a higher tolerance of risk. This is popular with day traders and those who are looking for quick gains on stocks. Those who subscribe to the Hot Pick Alert also receive the Daily Stock Update. The Hot Pick Alert is also sent prior to the opening of the market.

Is Exchange Alert a Registered Investment Advisor or Broker/Dealer?

The answer to this is clearly NO. As we have said in the past, the "big boys" on Wall Street have a clear advantage over the "little guy" out there. We simply do our best to educate, hopefully entertain, and provide food for thought about ways to stay "ahead of the pack." You should not rely on the information or opinions found on our website or as part of any of our offerings. Use the information as starting points for doing independent research on companies and investing techniques. You are responsible for your own investment decisions. If you do not accept this responsibility for yourself, then you should not be using ExchangeAlert.

How do you choose the stocks you recommend?

First, we do our own independent research from a wide variety of sources. We talk to traders, investment professionals, analysts, and follow the financial news with a religious zeal. We consider rumors, logical conclusions, market direction, company capitalization, P/E's, and chart movements. We do considerable work examining companies and their valuations, strategic positioning and where the particular industry appears to be headed. We watch management closely, we learn about management teams and how they operate in their particular company. We look for efficiencies and inefficiencies. We consider trading programs and algorithms as a means of comparison. Simply put, we use every possible tool we can to make what we feel are shrewd picks. We do not disclose to anyone the specific method(s) we have used to pick a particular stock. We offer a brief explanation to our subscribers on each recommendation with no further comment. All of our members are treated equally and everyone is receiving the same information.

Can I Use Multiple E-Mail Addresses?

Only one e-mail address is permitted per paying member. A member subscribing to the Hot Pick Alert must have both the Hot Pick Alert and Daily Stock Update sent to the same e-mail.

How do I know when to Buy or Sell?

Both the Stock Market Update & Hot Pick Alert will have the information on what the recommendations are related to buying and selling.

Does ExchangeAlert get paid by any companies they recommend?

The answer to that is clearly NO. That is also clearly against the strict guidelines of the SEC. We do not have any special relationship with any of the companies we recommend. Most of the stocks we follow/recommend are large capitalization stocks. We definitely DO NOT follow or recommend any penny type stocks. We are there for our members and nobody else.

How many stocks do you recommend at any given time?

In both our Daily Stock Update & Hot Pick Alert, we normally work with 10-15 stocks in each and follow them very closely.

How much cash should I keep as part of my investment portfolio?

We like to see approximately 25% of investment capital held in cash. In volatile markets, a higher percentage makes even more sense as it will allow for more buy in opportunities during market declines.

How does ExchangeAlert calculate the monthly portfolio results?

Simple. We calculate the gains and losses each month in our "sold" portfolio, and divide that number by the total sold. As an example, if we sold Google (GOOG) for a 10% gain, Apple (AAPL) for a 10% gain, and Yahoo (YHOO) for a 4% loss, we would have a combined percentage gain of 15%. 10 + 10 - 5 = 15. Divide the 15 by the 3 companies and you get an average gain of 5% . We do not include commissions in our calculations and all stock positions are treated as equal value, regardless of whether the stock is a $10 stock or a $100 stock. In our calculations, a 10% gain on a $10 stock is the same as a 10% gain in a $100 stock. We keep it as simple as possible and bear in mind that the portfolios we present are hypothetical in nature. None of the portfolios are "live" portfolios where actual trades are taking place.

How does ExchangeAlert calculate the Hot Pick Alert results?

Hot Pick Alerts are designed for more active traders and day traders that have significant experience buying and selling stocks. Since many gains are taken "quickly", we report results on whether or not the trade ended profitably rather than an actual percentage number. Many of our members use trailing stops to protect their gains while holding on to the stock in hopes of larger gains. Thus, the actual percentage results will vary for individual members. Our goal is to pick stocks that we believe have potential for quick gains of 10% . Sometimes it will be a little more, sometimes a little less.
